The Preeminence of Christ

Last week we talked about the fact that the Book of Colossians has risen in importance in the mind of many scholars in the last several years. Some even saying that it is “the most relevant of all Paul’s epistles in the modern age”! Its focus is on the magnificence of Christ, in answer to first century Gnostic belief that diminished Christ and His work as “insufficient” to provide salvation. Christ plus knowledge (“gnosis”) was the way to be saved. Our text was likely a first century hymn exalting Christ! “The Preeminence of Christ” is taken from Colossians 1:15-23.
